Kenya: New Water Well in Roo

According to Father Philip Olage, the school principal in Roo, the well at Bishop Mugendi School has silted up again. An inspection has revealed that, despite all efforts, the old well can no longer be repaired. The engineer in charge has advised drilling a new well, as this area is prone to ground movement, and has recommended using modern techniques to protect the new well. The affected well was drilled in 1986 and has apparently exceeded its useful life.

The students have returned from vacation, but since this is a semi-arid region, it is very difficult to obtain water. The lake is 1.5 kilometers away. Strangers may harass them, especially the girls. This can lead to a decline in academic performance and even cause students to drop out of school.

Thanks to the generous support of many donors, the project was fully funded and successfully implemented.
