South Sudan: Health project
The Marist project “Right to health – right to live” supports the activities of two training institutes created to train primary school teachers as well as midwives and nurses in South Sudan.
South Sudan, independent from Sudan since July 2011 after decades of civil war, is one of the poorest countries in the world. Due to countless conflicts and economic crises, there is a severe shortage of local health care and education professionals to serve the population. More than 80% of the population live in rural areas and have no access to these basic services. The maternal mortality rate is among the highest in the world.
Access to education is critical, especially for girls, to promote women’s empowerment and help make local schools more girl-friendly.
Our association has been contributing significantly to the health project in 2018 and 2019 with more than € 80,000 in donations, thus creating the basis for health care.
