The Marist Solidarity International association was once again delighted to receive a generous donation from the Furth Horticultural Association this year. The donation of €500 will go towards the urgently needed drilling of a well at the Bishop Mugendi School in Roo, Kenya. As the school principal, Father Philip Olage, reports, the existing well, which dates back to 1986, is heavily silted up and beyond repair. The students know from their own experience how difficult it is to obtain water in this semi-arid region: the nearest lake is about 1.5 kilometers away. On the way there, they are sometimes harassed by strangers, which is a particular burden for girls. The consequences can be serious, ranging from a decline in school performance to dropping out of school. With this support, the horticultural association is making a valuable contribution to improving local living and educational opportunities. In addition to the Maristen Solidarität International association, the St. Elisabeth nursing station in Obersüßbach and the Landshut children’s palliative care service also received donations from the horticultural association. The large donation of €2,000 was made possible by the dedicated efforts of many volunteers in various activities, such as the plant flea market and the St. Nicholas market.
A heartfelt thank you to all the members of the horticultural association!
